Python Level 2

From writing basic Python to building a structured program with multiple parts — on CT Realms, our own Python learning platform.

Course Overview

Python Level 2 takes a student from “I can write basic Python” to “I can build a small structured program with multiple parts.”

It continues on CT Realms, the Python learning platform we built ourselves, picking up where Level 1 finished and moving into the skills that separate writing a few lines from building something that holds together.

What You’ll Learn

  • Deeper Functions — Parameters, return values, and breaking a problem into pieces
  • Dictionaries — Richer data structures for organizing information
  • Working with Data — Read, write and process files
  • Program Organization — Structure a program with multiple parts that work together
  • A Larger Guided Build — Apply all of it to one substantial project

Course Structure

A 16-week term on CT Realms, working through the platform’s Level 2 sequence and finishing with a larger guided build.

Where Level 1 ends with a small program a student writes alone, Level 2 ends with something bigger — multiple parts, more moving pieces, and design decisions the student has to make and then defend.

What You’ll Deliver

By the end of the term, each student produces:

  • A more complete multi-part Python project
  • An explanation of the design choices behind it

Where It Leads

Level 2 is the recommended foundation before entering AI Project Labs, particularly for younger students. It is not mandatory — Grade 6+ students can enter AI Level 1 directly — but students who arrive with Level 2 behind them can read, reason about and modify code rather than only prompting for it.
