Course Overview

STEM Labs Adventurer is our most advanced STEM Labs program, designed for students ready to tackle real engineering challenges. Using VEX IQ, students build sophisticated robots and learn programming skills that prepare them for competitive robotics.

What You’ll Learn

• Advanced Mechanisms — Complex gear trains, differential drives, and robotic arms
• VEX IQ Sensors — Use distance, touch, color, and gyro sensors effectively
• Block-Based Programming — Advanced VEXcode IQ Blocks for autonomous routines
• Systems Thinking — How mechanical and software components work together
• Project Management — Planning and executing multi-week robot builds

Capstone Projects

Students complete major projects that showcase their skills:

• Autonomous Robot — Program a robot that navigates obstacles without human control
• Challenge Robot — Build a robot optimized for specific game challenges
• Engineering Portfolio — Document your designs and programming solutions

Course Structure

The program follows a 4-week rotating cycle:

1. Week 1: Game Analysis & Concepts — Analyze the challenge, learn advanced mechanical and programming concepts
2. Week 2: Robot Building & Programming — Build your robot and write autonomous programs
3. Week 3: Fine Tuning & Scrimmage — Optimize performance and practice in scrimmages
4. Week 4: In-Class Competition — Compete with classmates in friendly competitions

Prerequisites

• Age: Grades 5-7 (ages 10-13)
• Recommended: STEM Labs Explorer or equivalent experience
