Course Overview
STEM Labs Explorer builds on foundational concepts, introducing students to more complex engineering challenges and scientific principles. Students work on multi-session projects that require planning, iteration, and creative problem-solving.
What You’ll Learn
- Mechanical Systems — Gears, pulleys, levers, and linkages using VEX IQ parts
- Block-Based Programming — Learn VEXcode IQ Blocks to control motors and sensors
- Engineering Design Process — Plan, prototype, test, and improve
- Robot Building — Construct functional robots that complete challenges
- Problem-Solving — Debug programs and optimize robot designs

Course Structure
The program follows a 4-week rotating cycle:
- Week 1: Game Analysis & Concepts — Analyze the challenge, learn core mechanical and programming concepts
- Week 2: Robot Building & Programming — Build your robot and write programs
- Week 3: Fine Tuning & Scrimmage — Optimize your robot and practice in scrimmages
- Week 4: In-Class Competition — Compete with classmates in friendly competitions
Prerequisites
- Age: Grades 3-4 (ages 8-10)
- Recommended: STEM Labs Junior or equivalent experience
- Materials: All materials provided
