Course Overview
VEX IQ Competition Foundation is designed for students new to competitive robotics. Over the course of this program, students will learn the fundamentals of robot design, construction, and programming while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
This hands-on course introduces students to the VEX IQ platform, teaching them how to build robust robots and program them to complete challenges. Students work in teams, mirroring the collaborative environment of real VEX IQ competitions.
What You’ll Learn

Course Structure
The program follows a 4-week rotating cycle:
- Weeks 1-2: Instruction — Learn new engineering concepts, programming techniques, and competition strategies
- Week 3: Building & Coding — Apply what you’ve learned to design, build, and program your robot
- Week 4: Competition & Scrimmage — Test your skills in practice matches and friendly competitions
Prerequisites
- Age: Grades 4-6 (ages 9-12)
- Experience: No prior robotics experience required
- Materials: All VEX IQ kits and laptops provided
What’s Next?
After completing the Foundation course, students can advance to the VEX IQ Competition Program where they’ll prepare for and participate in official VEX IQ competitions.
